Libya reviews plans for 2026 tuna fishing season
Minister of State for the Prime Minister’s and Cabinet Affairs, Mohamed bin Ghalboun, has discussed plans to implement the National Fisheries Strategy for 2027–2037 and arrangements for the 2026 tuna fishing season.
The strategy, approved under Cabinet Resolution 477, aims to develop and regulate the fisheries sector, organise fishing seasons and promote the sustainable use of marine resources.
The meeting also reviewed the work of a committee established under Prime Minister’s Resolution 202 to oversee the tuna fishing season and ensure it is conducted in line with approved regulations.
Officials attending included Mahmoud Ajaj, director general of the Libyan Fund for Domestic Investment and Development, the undersecretary of the Ministry of Marine Resources for Technical Affairs and Libya’s representative to the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT).
