Libya, Qatar discuss security and migration cooperation

Deputy Defence Minister, Lieutenant General Abdul Salam Al-Zoubi, has met Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al-Khulaifi, to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation and efforts to promote security and stability in Libya.

The meeting took place on Wednesday at the Defence Ministry headquarters in Tripoli, in the presence of the Qatari minister’s accompanying delegation.

According to the Defence Ministry, the talks covered the latest developments in a four-country cooperation mechanism on irregular migration involving Libya, Qatar, Turkey and Italy. The two sides also discussed ways to develop joint efforts in the area.

The Qatari delegation also visited the joint operations room responsible for implementing the mechanism, which was recently launched to strengthen coordination among the four countries in tackling irregular migration and supporting voluntary return programmes.
