Pyramids FC manager Rulani Mokwena has reportedly slapped a fine on absent goalkeeper Mahmoud Gad.

Gad’s Absence Sparks Crisis at Pyramids

A source revealed to Twasl News that Mahmoud Gad has been absent from the team’s training sessions recently, which is said to have caused a crisis within the Sky Blues camp.

Mokwena is claimed to have decided to impose a financial penalty of 150,000 Egyptian pounds (around R47 000) on the goalkeeper, while also leaving him out of his plans for the side’s next three matches.

This is due to what has been described as an unacceptable violation and a lack of discipline on the part of the shot-stopper.

A number of Pyramids players reportedly attempted to intervene between Gad and Mokwena, but the South African is claimed to have stuck to his decision.

The keeper was absent from the squad for the Egyptian League match against El Gouna and the return leg of the CAF Champions League against Gor Mahia.

Mokwena’s Fine Run Continues Amid Gad Controversy

The reported controversy comes amid good times for Pyramids, led by the South African tactician who bagged the Coach of the Month award after a fast start to life in Egypt.

Mokwena’s side kicked off their 2026/27 campaign in perfect fashion, winning all six of their competitive matches across the Egyptian Premier League and the CAF Champions League.

Over two legs, the New Cairo-based outfit picked up a 7-1 aggregate victory to progress to the second qualifying round of the continental competition.

Domestically, they sit third in the table with 12 points from four matches, maintaining their record of not conceding a single league goal.
