Mohanad Lasheen, whose contract with Pyramids is understood to run until June next year, had recently been linked with a move to Egyptian rivals Al Ahly.
Mokwena Wants Lasheen To Stay
According to Egypt Times, however, Pyramids have no intention of allowing the midfielder to leave during the current transfer window.
The report adds that Lasheen is regarded as one of the key figures in the squad and is expected to play an important role in the club’s plans for the 2026/27 campaign.
It is further understood that Mokwena is a big admirer of the 30-year-old after being impressed by his performances for Egypt at the recent FIFA World Cup.
The South African coach has reportedly recommended that the club retain the midfielder, believing he remains a vital part of the squad heading into the new season.
World Cup Performances Strengthened His Stock
Lasheen played a significant role in Egypt’s historic World Cup campaign, helping the Pharaohs reach the Round of 16 after advancing to the knockout stages for the first time in the nation’s history.
Operating as the defensive shield in Hossam Hassan’s midfield, he started all four matches he was available for.
The midfielder also produced impressive defensive numbers, registering 16 tackles, eight interceptions and four clearances, while maintaining a passing accuracy of around 82% across the competition.
