The South African coach oversaw four friendly matches during the camp in Erzurum and Rize, with mixed results — two victories and two defeats — as he continues to make his mark after succeeding Croatian Krunoslav Jurčić.
The Sky Blues lost to Iran’s Persepolis 1-0 before beating Turkey’s Alanyaspor 2-0, overcoming Kuwait’s Al-Arabi 3-1, and concluding with a 2-1 defeat to Turkey’s Rizespor, according to El Watan News.
Mokwena Grants Pyramids a Break
The Pyramids delegation returned from Rize on a private plane, with Mokwena deciding to give his players four days off before they resume training.
The Sky Blues will return to training on Thursday, 13 August at the Air Defence Stadium, marking the start of the final stage of their preparation programme.
Mokwena relied on a large group of players during the camp, intending to assess their readiness and identify the elements that could implement his tactical ideas ahead of the new campaign.

Pyramids will conclude their preparations ahead of the Egyptian Premier League season, which kicks off on 21 August.

The Sky Blues open their campaign against Ghazl El Mahalla, with Mokwena seeking a strong start as he targets domestic success and a second CAF Champions League title, having previously won the competition in 2025.
The 38-year-old will be hoping to have his attacking reinforcements in place before the season gets underway, having repeatedly urged the club’s management to finalise deals to replace Fiston Mayele.
