Pyramids Beat Abu Qir to Top Premier League Table

Pyramids FC beat Abu Qir Fertilizers to take the top spot in the Premier League, while Al Masry and Modern Sport also won their ties.

Youssef Obama opened the scoring for Pyramids against Abu Qir in the first half. Karim Hafez played Obama into the left side of the penalty area before the forward finished past goalkeeper Mahmoud Genesh in the 47th minute.

In the second half, Odeh Al-Fakhouri doubled the advantage four minutes after the restart, scoring his second goal in as many league appearances.

Pyramids controlled 68% of possession and prevented Abu Qir from registering a shot on target. Rhulani Mokwena’s side now have six points, five goals and two clean sheets, after they began the campaign with a 3-0 away victory over Ghazl El-Mahalla.

Abu Qir remain on three points after opening their first top-flight campaign with a 1-0 win over National Bank of Egypt.

Al Masry Win Five-Goal Contest

Al Masry also maintained their perfect start by beating Arab Contractors 3-2 at New Suez Stadium.

Idrissa Thiam gave Arab Contractors the lead in the 35th minute with a long-range strike. Mahmoud Hamada equalised one minute before half-time.

Half-time substitute Hussein Faisal completed Al Masry’s turnaround in the 51st minute, but former Al Masry player Omar Kamal made it 2-2 for Arab Contractors in the 77th.

Mohamed El-Shamy then scored the winner five minutes later to secure Al Masry’s second victory. Al Masry also have six points after beating Smouha 1-0 in gameweek one. Arab Contractors remain without a point following successive defeats against Tala’ea El-Gaish and Al Masry.

Modern Sport Strike Late

Modern Sport scored twice during the final 12 minutes to defeat Ghazl El-Mahalla 2-0 at Cairo International Stadium.

Substitute Ahmed Mostafa broke the deadlock in the 78th minute with a powerful shot past Amer Amer. Mahmoud Mamdouh added the second eight minutes later after breaking through on goal.

Modern moved to four points after drawing 1-1 away to El Gouna in their opening match. Ghazl El-Mahalla remain without a point or a goal after losing their first two games by an aggregate score of 5-0.

So far, Pyramids lead the provisional standings on goal difference, ahead of Tala’ea El-Gaish and Al Masry, who also have six points. Tala’ea followed their opening 1-0 win over Arab Contractors by beating Suez Petrojet 3-2 on Wednesday.

Defending champions Zamalek and Modern Sport follow the leading trio on four points. Zamalek drew 0-0 with Al Ittihad in gameweek one before recording a 3-0 victory over El Bank El Ahly.

Gameweek two of the Egyptian Premier League concludes on Friday with Canal SC facing El Gouna, El Sharkia ENPPI hosting Wadi Degla, Al Ittihad playing Ceramica Cleopatra, and Al Ahly visiting ZED.
