Zamalek won against El Bank El Ahly, Tala’ea El-Gaish beat Suez Petrojet 3-2, and Smouha drew 0-0 with Asyut Petroleum.
The victory gave defending champions Zamalek their first win of the Egyptian Premier League season. They moved to four points after opening their campaign with a goalless draw against Ittihad Alexandria.
El Bank El Ahly remain without a point following successive defeats. They lost 1-0 to newly promoted Abu Qir Fertilizers in gameweek one.
El Bank El Ahly created the better chances during the first half at Cairo International Stadium. Yaw Annor fired wide before failing to capitalise on a mistake by Zamalek goalkeeper Mahdi Soliman. The Ghanaian went closer in the 40th minute when his long-range effort struck the crossbar.
At the other end, Abdelaziz El-Balouty denied Oday Dabbagh shortly before the interval. Zamalek coach Motamed Gamal responded by introducing Chico Banza and Ahmed Rabie for Ahmed Sherif and Ahmed Fattouh at half-time.
Banza opened the scoring in the 51st minute, six minutes after coming off the bench.
El Bank El Ahly pushed for an equaliser, but Mahdi Soliman denied Ahmed Yasser Rayan and Ahmed Madbouly. El-Balouty also stopped Nasser Mansi from extending Zamalek’s lead.
Hossam Ashraf replaced Mansi in the 77th minute and made it 2-0 nine minutes later. Isho then entered in the 87th minute before completing the victory in the fifth minute of stoppage time. All three goals came from substitutes.
The 3-0 result left El Bank El Ahly bottom of the early standings after conceding four goals without scoring across their opening two matches.
Tala’ea Survive Suez Petrojet Comeback
Tala’ea El-Gaish moved provisionally top of the table with six points after beating Suez Petrojet 3-2. Karim Tarek opened the scoring with a long-range strike in the 19th minute. Islam Mohareb doubled the visitors’ advantage two minutes before half-time.
Mohamed Atef added the third in the 48th minute, placing Gomaa Mashhour’s side in control. Suez Petrojet responded through Godwin Chika in the 65th minute before Mostafa El-Badry reduced the deficit again nine minutes from time.
Tala’ea protected their advantage to complete back-to-back victories. Suez Petrojet remain on one point.
Smouha Held at Home
Smouha and Asyut Petroleum opened the day with a goalless draw at Borg El Arab Stadium. Smouha goalkeeper Ahmed Mayhoub and his Asyut counterpart Amgad Youssef each made two saves as neither side found a breakthrough.
The result gave Smouha their first point following an opening defeat against Al Masry. Asyut Petroleum moved to two points after consecutive draws.
Gameweek two continues on Thursday with Modern Sport hosting Ghazl El-Mahalla, Pyramids facing Abu Qir Fertilizers and Arab Contractors meeting Al Masry.
Al Ahly visit ZED on Friday, while El Sharkia ENPPI face Wadi Degla, Canal SC host El Gouna and Al Ittihad play Ceramica Cleopatra.
