Nestlé To Build $116M Infant Formula Factory In Brazil As Part Of Broader Nutrition Push

The capital expenditure forms the centerpiece of a wider SFr310 million ($383 million / 2 billion reais) strategic allocation toward Nestlé’s Brazilian nutrition and health division through 2028. Beyond constructing the Ituiutaba plant, the capital program includes substantial technological and operational upgrades at its Araçatuba facility in São Paulo state—the company’s primary national production hub for infant, medical, and adult nutrition formulations.

Strategically, the facility is designed to address domestic supply deficits and substitute product volumes that Brazil currently imports from international processing hubs. Initial production at Ituiutaba will encompass regional and global brand lines including Nan, Lactogen, Nestogeno, Nestonutri, and fortified Ninho formulations. Beyond meeting domestic consumption targets, the new plant is engineered to provide export capacity across Latin American markets, backed by a planned 15 percent domestic expansion in local whey processing by 2029 to secure core dairy ingredient inputs.

The investment solidifies Nestlé’s market leadership across Latin America’s largest economy, where the group already commands an 80.9 percent share of the baby milk category. According to GlobalData research, Brazil’s baby milk market reached 2.53 billion reais ($490 million) in 2025 and is projected to expand at a 3.6 percent compound annual growth rate (CAGR) to reach 2.9 billion reais by 2029, driven by urban middle-class demand for science-backed infant nutrition.
