Cletis (Clete) Thomas Summers, 75 of Rosedale passed away Aug. 25, 2026, surrounded by family and comforted by God’s grace.

He was born Feb. 3, 1951, at home in Brazil to the late Richard and Eloise Summers. Cletis graduated from Cascade High School in 1970. He began working at New York Central, Penn Central, and Conrail and retired from CSX as a Roadmaster in 2011 after 41 years and eight months of service on the railroad.

Cletis was an active member of Trinity Baptist Church in Brazil. He enjoyed hunting deer with his son and grandchildren. That was his most enjoyable time during deer season, spending time with his family. Cletis married Lawana Wilson on July 14, 1973, and was married for 53 years. They had a set of twins, Brent and Bridgett, who live near him on their farm. He was a member and past Master of Bellville Masonic Lodge #65. Cletis loved his trips to Canada fishing with friends and with the Boy Scouts. He served as Assistant Scout Master for Boy Scout troop #305 of Clayton. He was known for his love for the Lord.

He is survived by his wife, Lawana Summers; sister Dameta (Larry) Rooze of Wingate; children Brent (Sylvia) Summers of Greencastle and Bridgett Summers of Rosedale; grandchildren Wyatt Summers, Emma (Justin) Pitts, Aubrey Summers and Logan Summers; brother- and sister-in-law Rick and Donna Wilson of Danville as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Enos Summers, Xenia Nelson, Terry Summers, Rita Summers and Randall Summers, Sr.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Trinity Baptist Church.

Visitation will be at Trinity Baptist Church on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2026, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Services will be at 2 p.m., with Pastor Seth Amos officiating. Burial will follow at Calcutta Cemetery.
