Morocco extradites two Swedes suspected of major drug trafficking

Morocco has extradited two Swedish nationals suspected of involvement in large-scale drug trafficking to Sweden, following a new cooperation agreement between Moroccan and Swedish police, local media reported on Friday.

The two men, aged 28 and 42, are suspected of holding senior positions in criminal networks involved in supplying drugs to Sweden and other Nordic countries.

The 28-year-old is suspected of leading a wholesale drug distribution network that sold narcotics to criminal groups in Sweden and elsewhere in the Nordic region. The 42-year-old allegedly held a leading position in a criminal network responsible for smuggling large quantities of cannabis into Sweden.

«We have seen several extraditions of serious criminal Swedes from Morocco in a short time. It is gratifying that two people whom we believe have had a significant impact on drug crime in the country can now be brought to justice», Jonas Hemmar, deputy head of the international unit at Sweden’s National Operations Department (Noa), said in a press release cited by local media.

Both suspects are expected to be remanded in custody in Sweden.
