Morocco’s Yassine Mahssoun Retains WMC Title with Second-Round KO

Rabat – Mahssoun delivered another impressive performance on Australian soil, defeating Cassidy Haberfield in the second round to retain his World Muaythai Council (WMC) Intercontinental title in the under-67kg division.

The bout was part of Infliction Fight Series #40, held at the Royal Pines Resort on Australia’s Gold Coast. The matchup had been billed as a major international Muay Thai clash, with Haberfield looking to capture the title in front of his home crowd.

Mahssoun took a measured approach in the opening round, using the early exchanges to read his opponent and assess his strengths. He then increased the pressure in the second round, turning his technical and physical advantage into a decisive knockout.

The victory allows the Moroccan to keep the WMC belt he first won in July 2025 in Le Grau-du-Roi, France, when he also stopped Spain’s José María Quevedo by knockout in the second round.

Mahssoun has already established himself as one of Morocco’s leading Muay Thai fighters. In December 2024, he won the WMC African Championship at under 67kg, defeating Senegal’s Madou Ba by second-round knockout in Casablanca.

His latest victory adds another international achievement to his record and strengthens his position on the professional Muay Thai scene.

The Moroccan champion prepared for the Australian challenge under coach Mohamed Bouherma Laroussi, alongside national coach Jouad Khouya.

Mahssoun’s latest knockout also continues a notable pattern in his championship career, with his WMC title victories coming through second-round stoppages.
