Libyan companies target new markets via Nigeria’s West Africa Food & Beverage Expo

The West Africa Food and Beverage Exhibition (9-11 June), one of the largest specialized exhibitions in the food and beverage industry across the African continent, opened in Lagos, Nigeria.

More than 420 companies representing 39 countries from around the world are participating.

The first day of the exhibition saw the opening of the “Libya, the Gateway to Africa” pavilion, under the auspices of the General Authority for Exhibitions and Conferences.

Thirteen Libyan companies, representing some of the most prominent national companies operating in the food industry and local products sectors, are participating. This initiative aims to enhance the presence of Libyan products in African markets and open new avenues for trade and investment cooperation.

This participation comes within the framework of the General Authority for Exhibitions and Conferences’ efforts to support national exports and enable Libyan companies to access new markets. This is achieved by fostering direct communication with investors, importers, and international companies, thereby contributing to building sustainable economic partnerships and increasing the competitiveness of Libyan products abroad.

The Libyan pavilion has made a notable appearance since the exhibition’s opening, attracting the attention of numerous visitors, company representatives, and importers from various countries. It has also hosted a series of bilateral meetings focused on opportunities for trade cooperation and economic exchange, as well as showcasing Libyan products and highlighting their quality, diversity, and competitiveness in regional and international markets.

In an exclusive statement to Libya Herald, Ashraf Akak, owner of Beit Al-Ghada Company, which specializes in the production and marketing of natural honey and olive oil, affirmed that participation in the exhibition represents a strategic opportunity to promote Libyan products and explore expansion opportunities within African markets.

Akak stated that the African market possesses significant potential for absorbing Libyan food products, particularly value-added natural products such as honey and olive oil. He pointed out that international exhibitions serve as an important platform for building direct relationships with importers and distributors and exploring partnership and export opportunities.

He added: “We are participating in this exhibition to emphasize that Libyan products are competitive regionally and across Africa, and that Libyan natural honey and olive oil possess high quality, qualifying them for access to new markets. The interest we witnessed on the first day reflects the existence of real opportunities to expand our exports and build sustainable trade partnerships within the African continent.”

This participation is organized by Africa Gateway Company under the supervision of the General Authority for Exhibitions and Conferences, as part of efforts aimed at strengthening the Libyan economic presence in Africa and consolidating Libya’s position as a gateway for trade and investment. This opens the door for national companies to benefit from the rapid growth in West African markets and expand their trade networks at the regional level.
