Opposition Movement for Progressive Change Political leader Simeon Freeman claimed that Singapore’s Head of State earns $2.2 million annually.
“Wages in Singapore are good. The President makes about $2.2 million a year.”
Freeman made the claim during a live online interview on Monday, August 31, 2026.
The interview was carried live on social media by several online platforms, including SPOON TV LIVE, Truth Lens News Liberia, Liberia Latest News TV, and The Liberian Investigator.
He made the claim exactly 13 minutes into the live show.
DUBAWA decided to fact-check the claim as part of its mandate to counter misinformation and disinformation and promote truth-telling in public discourse.
Verification
Our researcher reviewed data published by Singapore’s Public Service Division on the 2017 Review of salaries for President, Prime Ministers, Speakers, and other members of Parliament.
Section C of the 2017 review shows that the President earns an annual salary of $1,680,000.
The Political salary review is usually done after six years and was due in 2023. Unfortunately, the government decided to defer the review due to pressing issues, including the global geopolitical situation in the Middle East and Ukraine.
Conclusion
