Catholic Diocese in South Sudan Establishes Movements for Catholic Men, Women and Children

“I feel deeply fulfilled and grateful that, after years of preparation, we have finally established CMA, CWA, and DMCM in our Diocese,” Bishop Hiiboro said.

“My profound gratitude goes to the team from the Archdiocese of Nairobi, under the leadership and pastoral support of His Grace Archbishop Philip Subira Anyolo, for accompanying us in this important journey of formation, coaching and mission,” he added.

The Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio is located in South Sudan’s former Western Equatoria State, bordering the Central African Republic and the Democratic Republic of Congo. It covers seven counties, including Maridi, Ibba, Yambio, Nzara, Ezo, Tombura and Nagero, and has 35 Parishes organized into six Deaneries. 

The Diocese has a Catholic population of more than one million, representing over 60 percent of the region’s population, mainly composed of the Azande, alongside ethnic groups such as the Balanda, Baka, Mundu, Muru, and Avukaya.

According to the 2022 Vatican statistics, the Catholic Diocese of Tombura Yambio has a population of 2,204,000, of whom 63 percent are Catholics.
