Yemeni Army Drone Strikes Kill , Injure Houthi Fighters in Taiz

Taiz – The Yemeni army announced Saturday evening that several Houthi fighters were killed and wounded in drone strikes targeting their positions in Taiz province, southwest of the country.

The official Saba news agency quoted a military source as saying government forces struck a Houthi vehicle in Jabal al‑Zuheib, Maqbana district, destroying it and killing multiple fighters. 

Among the dead was identified commander Mohammed al‑Shalabi, while his brother, senior Houthi figure Mahmoud al‑Shalabi, and field commander Burhan al‑Abdali were injured along with others.

A second strike hit a Houthi checkpoint in the al‑Zulul area of Maqbana, reportedly causing additional casualties, though no figures were provided. The Houthi movement has not commented on the incidents as of 21:00 GMT.

Earlier Saturday, a spokesman for the pro‑government Joint Forces on Yemen’s western coast, Waddah al‑Dubeish, confirmed three soldiers were killed and seven wounded in clashes with Houthis in the al‑Barh front of Taiz.

Since April 2022, Yemen has experienced a fragile lull in a war that began more than 12 years ago between government forces and the Houthis, who have controlled the capital Sana’a and several provinces since September 2014. 

In recent weeks, however, fighting has reignited in multiple provinces, including Marib, al‑Jawf, al‑Dhalea, and Taiz, deepening fears in a country already facing one of the world’s worst humanitarian and economic crises.
