Yemen : Father , Son Killed by Houthi Landmine in Sana’a Province

Sana’a — A Yemeni man and his teenage son were killed when a landmine exploded as they were herding sheep in Harib area of Nihm district, northeast of the capital, according to documentation by the human rights group Shuhud.

The victims were identified as Ismail Atiyah al-Haymi, 50, and his 17‑year‑old son Mohammed. 

The explosion occurred around 2 p.m. in Wadi Aila Qarn al-Dhiab. Local residents reported hearing the blast and later found the bodies after the family raised alarm over their delayed return.

Shuhud confirmed its field team documented the incident and collected evidence, citing consistent testimonies from villagers that Houthi forces had planted mines in Harib and surrounding areas during years of conflict. 

The organization warned that these mines continue to pose grave risks to civilians, particularly farmers, shepherds, and children.

The group called for disclosure of minefield maps, clearance of contaminated areas, an independent investigation into the incident, accountability for those responsible, and compensation for the victims’ family.

The tragedy underscores the ongoing humanitarian toll of landmines and war remnants across Yemen, where rural communities remain highly vulnerable to hidden explosives long after frontlines have shifted.
