Defending champions South Africa booked their place in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Burkina Faso in their final Group B match on Tuesday, August 4, 2026.
Captain Thembi Kgatlana scored the decisive goal in the first half, giving Banyana Banyana the win they needed to keep their title defence alive.

Burkina Faso pushed for an equaliser after the break but were unable to breach the South African defence, suffering elimination from the tournament.
