Washington imposes tariffs on Libyan imports

The United States has added Libya to a list of 60 trading partners whose imports will be subject to new tariffs, as part of measures based on investigations into the ineffectiveness of the ban on goods produced using forced labour.

Under the decision, imports from Libya will be subject to a 12.5% tariff, along with imports from several other countries in the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Tariffs of 10% or 12.5% will be applied depending on the results of investigations into each trading partner.

This decision is part of broader measures announced by the United States to strengthen the enforcement of its trade laws and limit the entry of goods suspected of being linked to supply chains that rely on forced labour.
