Vaibhav Sooryvanshi’s thunderous beginnings in T20 international cricket reaped major benefits after the 15-year-old made his entry in the ICC’s men’s T20 batting rankings on Wednesday. The young opener put up a sensational performance during India’s recently concluded tour in Zimbabwe.

The teenage cricketing powerhouse made his international debut for India during the England tour after a breakout season in IPL 2016 but did not have a fruitful outing. But he displayed his full potential during the team’s tour of Zimbabwe, where the 15-year-old Vaibhav was named the Player of the Series for his breathtaking display with the bat.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi secures career-best ICC batter rankings

Following a dominant performance against Zimbabwe, Vaibhav rose to a career-best 48th in the men’s ICC T20 batting rankings, rising 230 spots in the list. The 15-year-old was the leading run scorer in the series, amassing 151 runs at an average of 50.33 and an overall strike rate of 196.10.

Vaibhav’s batting heroics helped India secure a 3-0 series victory over Zimbabwe. His strokeplay looked effortless as he delivered a standout performance against the Herons.

After a subdued start against England, Vaibhav turned Harare into his own stage, providing India with the perfect opening in all three matches.

Kishan, Gill also gain crucial points

Apart from Vaibhav, Indian wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan also acquired a career-high rating of 916 and remains at the top of the rankings following the second match of the series, where he scored a commanding 81.

Kishan’s career rating is the third-highest in the list of best-ever ICC Men’s T20 international batters’ rankings and stands right behind his Indian compatriot Abhishek Sharma (931) and England’s Dawid Malan (919).

In terms of the ODI rankings, India captain Shubman Gill dethroned New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell to become the No. 1-ranked batter in the 50-over format. The Kiwi batter held the top spot since January 2026.
