Turkish cargo ship attacked in Libya, one killed

The Turkish Foreign Ministry stated that on Monday a Turkish dry cargo ship was attacked from the air on Sunday night , May 10.

It was reported that the ship came under two separate “aerial attacks” as it tried to leave from the port and the ship’s third officer died.

The ministry strongly condemned the attack in a statement released on Monday, May 11. It was reported that the attack resulted in the killing of the third captain of the ship and caused injuries to some crew members of the ship.

The ship was reportedly carrying plasterboard from Spain to Tobruk, Libya, when it was fired upon 21 kilometers (13 miles) from the port, suffering some damage, the Foreign Ministry statement said. A Turkish firm owns the cargo ship.

The foreign ministry did not make any statement about who launched the attack.
