Casablanca – Morocco enjoyed a golden day at the Taranto 2026 Mediterranean Games, securing three gold medals through Yassine Hssine, Fatima Ezzahra Birdaha and the men’s doubles tennis team.
Hssine takes 100m gold
Yassine Hssine delivered Morocco’s first triumph in athletics by winning the men’s 100m final.
The Moroccan sprinter crossed the finish line in 10.31 seconds to claim the gold medal.
Italy’s Eric Marek finished second in 10.41, while Slovenia’s Anej Curin Prapotnik completed the podium with a time of 10.43.
Birdaha sets personal best in 5,000m
Fatima Ezzahra Birdaha added a second athletics gold for Morocco by winning the women’s 5,000m final.
Birdaha produced a personal-best time of 15:07.40 to take the top spot, finishing more than 14 seconds ahead of Italy’s Micol Majori, who claimed silver in 15:21.86.
Türkiye’s Silan Ayyildiz secured the bronze medal after recording 15:23.08, a season-best mark.
Dlimi and Lalami complete the golden treble
Morocco’s third gold of the day came in men’s doubles tennis, where Yassine Dlimi and Younes Lalami defeated Spain’s Alejandro Marti Pujolras and Alejo Sanchez Quilez in the gold-medal match.
The Moroccan pair won the contest 2-0, taking the two sets 7-5 and 6-4.
Their victory completed a memorable triple-gold day for Morocco, with the national delegation celebrating victories in both athletics and tennis at the Mediterranean Games.
Morocco sits eighth in medal table
The three victories have further strengthened Morocco’s position in the overall medal standings at the Taranto 2026 Mediterranean Games.
Morocco currently sits eighth overall, with seven gold medals, five silver and six bronze for a total of 18 medals.
The Moroccan delegation is directly behind Portugal, which also has seven gold medals and 21 medals overall, while Croatia follows in ninth with five gold medals and 31 medals in total.
Morocco will now look to build on its strong campaign as competition continues at the Mediterranean Games.
