Morocco’s Sofyan Amrabat Joins Ajax Amsterdam

Moroccan international Sofyan Amrabat has signed with Ajax Amsterdam until June 30, 2028, on a free transfer, the Dutch club announced on Sunday.

The 30-year-old defensive midfielder has signed a contract with immediate effect, after reaching an agreement with his former club, Fenerbahçe, on Saturday to end their collaboration.

Born in Huizen, the Netherlands, Amrabat began his professional career at FC Utrecht before joining Feyenoord Rotterdam. He subsequently played for Club Brugge in Belgium, Hellas Verona and Fiorentina in Italy, Manchester United in England, and Fenerbahçe in Turkey. Last season, he was loaned to Real Betis in Spain.

“We are delighted to have secured Sofyan’s signature. He is physically strong, technically gifted and brings a wealth of international experience,” said Jordi Cruijff, Ajax’s technical director.

“Amrabat also knows the Dutch league, which means we expect him to settle in quickly. With him, we have signed exactly the type of player we were looking for,” he added.

Amrabat, who has earned numerous caps for Morocco, recently took part in his third World Cup with the Atlas Lions.
