Morocco Seizes Over 75 Kg of Cocaine at Guerguerat Border Crossing

Agadir – Moroccan security and customs officers seized more than 75 kilograms of cocaine during a joint operation at the Guerguerat border crossing south of Dakhla today, foiling a suspected attempt to smuggle the drugs across international borders.

Security officers and customs agents conducted border checks and inspections with the help of trained police sniffer dogs. The operation led them to discover 75 kilograms and 132 grams of cocaine concealed inside a truck bearing Moroccan license plates.

The truck had arrived from a sub-Saharan African country. Officers also arrested its 49-year-old driver.

The competent public prosecutor’s office has ordered a preliminary investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the case and identify all individuals involved.

Investigators will also work to trace any links the suspected trafficking operation may have to criminal networks inside Morocco or at the regional and international levels.

The operation forms part of Moroccan security services’ ongoing efforts at the Guerguerat border crossing to combat international drug trafficking and the smuggling of psychotropic substances, as well as other forms of cross-border crime.
