TCG Göksu arrives in Mogadishu as Türkiye expands naval role in Somalia

Mogadishu (HOL) — The Turkish Navy frigate TCG Göksu docked at the Port of Mogadishu on Saturday as part of the Turkish Naval Task Group operating in Somalia, the Turkish Embassy in Mogadishu said.

The embassy said officials visited the vessel and met Turkish naval personnel on board.

“We paid a visit to TCG Göksu frigate, a component of the Somalia Turkish Naval Task Group Command, and met with our gallant Turkish Navy personnel,” the embassy said in a post on Facebook. “We wish them fair winds and following seas.”

TCG Göksu has previously taken part in Turkish maritime operations linked to Somalia.

In July 2026, Türkiye’s Ministry of Defense said TCG Göksu, TCG Gelibolu and TCG Bartın were protecting the oil exploration vessel Çağrı Bey and support vessels Korkut, Altan and Sancar.

The deployment is connected to the Curad-1 oil exploration operation off Somalia’s coast.

The vessel’s arrival in Mogadishu comes as Somalia and Türkiye deepen cooperation in defense, maritime security and energy.

Türkiye recently extended its military mission in Somalia for another two years, allowing Turkish forces to continue providing military support and training to Somali forces.
