South Liberation Operations Room accuses Haftar forces of killing two young men in Gatroon

The South Liberation Operations Room accused members of the “87 Group,” led by Mohamed Al-Mazoghi and affiliated with Khalifa Haftar’s forces, of killing a young man, Hussein Youssef, inside a fuel station in the southern city of Gatroon, in an incident it said sparked anger and tensions among local residents.

In a statement posted on its Facebook page, the Operations Room said residents took to the streets to demand that the suspect in the killing be handed over and held accountable, before they came under gunfire, resulting in the death of another resident, according to the statement.

The Operations Room called on residents to express their position peacefully and urged civil society organizations, human rights advocates and community elders to document what it described as violations and demand that those responsible be held accountable under the law.

It also called on the international community to reconsider its positions toward the situation in southern Libya and examine developments more closely, while holding countries supporting what it called “Haftar’s militias” morally responsible for the continued violence and violations against civilians.

The Operations Room praised the young men who, it said, confronted what it described as a “killing machine,” calling for the protection of civilians’ lives and dignity and stressing that Libyan blood “is not cheap.”
