Cameroonian Authorities Arrest 23-Year-Old With Cache of 7.62mm Ammunition Near Nigeria Border

Cameroonian security authorities have arrested a 23-year-old man allegedly transporting a large cache of 7.62mm ammunition concealed in containers near the Nigeria-Cameroon border in the Far North Region.

The suspect, identified as Moussa Ngoudja, according to Security and insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama is a Cameroonian national from Sueram in Fotokol.

He was arrested at about 6:30 a.m. on August 9 during a security operation by members of the Vigilance Committee in Dougoumslio Slio Village.

A security source told Zagazola Makama that Ngoudja was intercepted while riding a Boxer motorcycle and was found carrying three containers loaded with several rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.

The arrest has heightened concerns over the movement of ammunition through border communities close to Gamboru in Borno State, an area that has long been affected by terrorist and criminal activities linked to the Lake Chad Basin.

According to preliminary investigations, the suspect allegedly told investigators that he collected the ammunition from Mada in Makary, Cameroon, and was transporting it to Mdego Village in Fotokol, also within Cameroon.

Ngoudja is currently being held at the Hilé Alifa Gendarmerie Brigade, where investigators are working to determine the source of the ammunition and whether he was acting alone or as part of a wider trafficking network operating along the Cameroon-Nigeria border.
