Somalia Senate Committee Reviews Health Professionals Regulation
Somalia’s Upper House Committee on Social Services has visited the headquarters of the National Health Professionals Council to assess its work regulating healthcare professionals and standards across the country.

The working visit on Thursday was led by the committee’s chairman, Senator Dr Osman Mahmoud Mohamed, also known as Dufle.
The committee examined several areas of healthcare oversight, including the quality of medical services, compliance with professional regulations, the quality of medicines and the safety of hospital services.
Members also reviewed procedures for assessing the qualifications, knowledge and professional competence of healthcare workers. Such assessments are intended to help maintain professional standards and protect patients.
Officials from the National Health Professionals Council briefed the committee on its responsibilities and activities, as well as its role in regulating health professionals in Somalia.
The briefing also highlighted challenges facing the council and its plans to strengthen the regulation and professional development of healthcare workers across the country.
The Upper House committee said the inspection was part of its oversight role and aimed to promote accountability and monitoring within the health sector.
It said strengthening compliance with health regulations and quality standards was important to ensuring that communities have access to effective, safe and high-quality healthcare.
The visit comes as Somalia continues efforts to strengthen its health sector and improve oversight of medical professionals and healthcare providers.
