MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s parliament speaker, Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur Jama, has described the burning of the Turkish flag in several regions across the country as an “appalling” development that is new to Somalia, saying a foreign agenda is behind the acts.
His remarks followed a wave of protests in Somalia’s Jubaland, Puntland and Southwest states, where demonstrators burned Turkish flag and images of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Jama said the burnings do not represent a Somali agenda but a foreign one, linking the incidents to what he called incoming geopolitical threats facing Somalia and rejecting any suggestion that the protests reflect Somali sentiment.
