The future of Zuko Mdunyelwa is expected to be a topic of discussion at Mamelodi Sundowns, with the possibility of an exit at the end of the season.

The 27-year-old recently sustained an injury not so long ago and has not featured in the matchday squad over the last few weeks, but competition has increased for the former Chippa United player with the additions of Thabang Matuludi and Deano van Rooyen.

Indications are that Mdunyelwa is back from injury and fighting hard for his place in the team.

Matuludi, in Khuliso Mudau’s absence, has enjoyed a good start at the club since joining from Polokwane City, with goals and assists to his name already.

The Bafana Bafana right back opened his scoring account for Sundowns, netting a brace in their 4-1 victory over Durban City at Royal Bafokeng Stadium over the weekend.

Mudau’s Return

At the moment, Matuludi seems to be the first choice at right back, while the experienced Thapelo Morena has been played there when there is rotation in the team.

Mudau could make a return in early 2027, which means there will be more competition at right back for Mdunyelwa.

It’s stilll early stages, but Soccer Laduma understands that Sundowns could give Mdunyelwa an opportunity to get game time elsewhere. Mdunyelwa is unlikely to make an exit during the January transfer window.
