Pyramids FC continued their perfect start in the Egyptian Premier League with 1-0 victory over Al Masry to remain on top of the table on Monday evening.
Following a winning start to the season, the Egyptian giants were keen to keep their momentum having taken like a duck to water under Rulani Mokwena but they came up against their first big test in Masry, who’d also won their opening two encounters.

The league leaders surged ahead after the opening ten minutes when a delightful delivery from a corner-kick by Mohamed Chibi picked out Ahmed Samy who showed the presence of mind to head home from close-range.
Masry were keen to restore parity ahead of the interval and a powerfully executed a free-kick by Ahmed El Armouty from the edge of the area trickled off the underside of the crossbar before going into touch.
Pyramids were made to alter their initial starting stall a minute to the break and summoned in Nasser Maher ahead of Fakhouri who unfortunately couldn’t continue playing.
It became a situation where the host opted to circulate possession rather than go on the charge, but wasn’t without worries as captain Mohamed El Shami slammed narrowly over goal in attempting the equaliser.

Masry still went on the attack thereafter in a desperate push for the equaliser and forced the host to defend deep, in their own half, but there was no jubilation and the day belonged to the camp of Mokwena.
Mokwena and his side will now turn their attention to CAF Champions League matters as they take on Gor Mahia in the first leg of their preliminary round tie on Sunday.
