Rulani Likens Pyramids Project To Barcelona

Rulani on Building Pyramids’ Identity
The South African tactician expressed his belief that his team needs to build and establish its identity, using the La Liga giants to paint the picture.
“Barcelona, for example, has fans and a history, but beyond that, it has an identity,” the coach said, per Akhbarak.
“Pyramids might not have that history, but we know that many fans love a winning team, and therefore we know that if we win, we will attract fans, as we saw in some matches where the stadium was packed,” he added.
“I’m like a painter creating a masterpiece; that’s how Pyramids plays. It’s different from Al-Ahly and Zamalek. They have a history, but we want to build our identity, establish it, and send a message to the fans that this is who we are.”
Mokwena Contrasts Style With Predecessor Krunoslav Jurcic
Mokwena was also asked how his approach differs from that of his predecessor, Krunoslav Jurcic – known for his touchline passion. He admitted the two have contrasting personalities and beliefs, but insisted the end goal has not seen a difference.
“I don’t want to distract the players with too many instructions during the match,” he said. “I try hard to give the players all the tools they need to win, and I give them a lot of things to motivate them.”
Mokwena on Motivating His Players
Mokwena went on to outline his approach to getting the best out of his squad.
“I motivate the players to solve problems in matches, and that’s the technical aspect. As for the psychological aspect, there are internal incentives that the player receives from external influences, whether from the coach, the fans, or the financial aspect, and the desire to achieve glory.
“But the motivation must come from within. I know it’s difficult, but I push the players to reach their best performance.”

Pyramids’ Perfect League Start
Mokwena’s charges have been in red-hot form in the Egyptian Premier League, collecting maximum points from their opening three matches with six goals scored and none conceded.
They will now be looking to carry that momentum into their CAF Champions League campaign, with a first preliminary round first leg against Gor Mahia in Kenya on Sunday.
