Royal Air Maroc plans Rio return as Morocco expands Brazil air links

Wednesday 27 May 2026 – 15:10

Royal Air Maroc plans to launch flights between Casablanca and Rio de Janeiro next year while increasing frequencies to São Paulo, as Morocco seeks to deepen air connectivity with Latin America amid growing tourism and business ties with Brazil.

The Moroccan carrier will raise weekly Casablanca São Paulo flights from four to five and is preparing to reopen the Rio route for the first time in decades, according to statements by Royal Air Maroc’s regional director for Latin America reported by the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce.

Royal Air Maroc previously operated flights to Rio de Janeiro until the early 1990s before suspending the route. The airline later returned to Brazil in 2013 with direct Casablanca São Paulo services, though operations were halted during the COVID 19 pandemic before resuming in 2024.

The expansion reflects Morocco’s broader push to position Casablanca as a gateway linking Africa, Europe and Latin America, particularly as trade and investment flows between Morocco and Brazil accelerate.

Flights to Brazil are currently operated using Boeing 787 Dreamliners, among the most modern aircraft in the airline’s fleet.
