There was no shortage of things to do in Morocco this Memorial Day weekend as the community celebrated with Beaver Fest.
From the May 22 opening day with town wide garage sales, to the final event on May 25 with the American Legion Post 146 Memorial service at Recher Park, the town was bustling with activity.
Food vendors reported selling out of some offerings.
This year’s parade was led by grand marshal Mike McClatchey, a lifelong resident of Morocco. He served on the town board for 16 years. He owned Morocco Plumbing and Heating for many years and also was a Little League and softball coach and umpire. He was instrumental in the establishment of the ball field that is still used today. He also helped to get new playground equipment at the park while he was on the town board.
Seventy-four vehicles were part of the car show and the 500 engine raffle tickets all so. Art Simpson of the Frankfort area was the winner of the 402 big block Chevy engine, according to information from Newco Performance Engine’s post.
The winners of the car show include:
Vintage 1989 and older: Rich Risch 1959 Chevy Parkwood Wagon
Late model 1990 and newer: Tim Brunton 2011 Camaro
Hot rod/custom: Ron Hardesty 1938 Chevy
Truck: Mike Coates 1956 Ford F1
Motorcycle: Melvin Thomas 1969 VW Trike
Surprise boat class winner: Kendell Arseneau 1936 Chris Craft
Plans are underway for next year’s event, say organizers.
