Residents of France’s Auvergne region and members of the Moroccan diaspora have launched an online petition seeking the restoration of direct flights between Clermont-Ferrand and Morocco.
The Change.org petition says passengers must currently travel hundreds of kilometers to airports in Lyon, Paris or Toulouse before flying to Morocco.
Organizers said the additional journey increases costs and travel times, particularly for families with children, older passengers, students and workers.
They described Morocco as an important destination for family visits, tourism and business and urged airlines and airport authorities to reassess demand for the route.
One signatory who makes more than five round trips annually said a direct service would reduce expenses and make it easier to maintain family ties.
Another said many Clermont-Ferrand residents now depend on Lyon airport, creating particular difficulties for older travelers.
