Papua New Guinea consults on three digital laws
The Department of Information and Communications Technology and the National Information and Communications Technology Authority of Papua New Guinea are convening a regional consultation on the proposed Cybersecurity Bill, Data Governance and Protection Bill, and Verifiable Credentials Bill.
On Thursday 27 and Friday 28 August 2026, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and the National Information and Communications Technology Authority (NICTA) of Papua New Guinea are holding the final stage of a regional consultation on three draft bills. They are the Cyber Security Bill 2026, the Data Governance and Protection Bill 2026, and the Verifiable Credential and Trust Services Bill 2026.
The two-day consultation will allow stakeholders to help shape Papua New Guinea’s digital future by providing feedback on the implementation of and compliance with the three proposed laws. Their contributions will also support stronger cybersecurity, improved data protection and trusted digital identity systems such as SevisPass and SevisWallet.

Papua New Guinea is building the legal and governance foundations for a secure digital economy by addressing cybersecurity, data protection, and trusted digital identity through the three proposed laws. Together, these frameworks will establish rules for securing digital systems, governing data, and enabling trusted online transactions through services such as SevisPass and SevisWallet. In the context of the global digital economy, the reforms reflect the growing importance of trusted digital infrastructure, regulatory certainty and compatible governance frameworks for digital trade, investment and cross-border digital services.
