Over 240 Displaced in Yemen Amid Weekly Decline in Numbers

Aden – The International Organization for Migration (IOM) reported that more than 240 people were newly displaced in Yemen last week, marking a one‑third drop compared to the previous week.

In its displacement tracking report issued Monday, the agency said it recorded 41 families comprising 246 individuals who fled their homes at least once between July 26 and August 1, 2026.

The figures represent a 37% decrease from the prior week, when 65 families (390 people) were displaced.

According to IOM’s Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM), the new cases were concentrated in four governorates under government control. Najran accounted for the largest share with 23 families, all displaced internally, followed by Marib with 12 families arriving from Taiz and Al‑Jawf. Hudaydah registered four families from Taiz and Hudaydah, while Lahj recorded two families.

The report noted that 66% of last week’s displacements—27 families—were driven by safety and security concerns. Eleven families (27%) fled due to natural disasters, while three families (7%) were uprooted by economic pressures linked to the conflict.

IOM revealed that the cumulative number of internally displaced families in Yemen since the start of 2026 has risen to 1,664, totaling 9,984 individuals.
