Rabat – Morocco’s head coach, Mohamed Ouahbi, has admitted that some of the players left out of the World Cup squad remain very much in his plans for the future.
Ouahbi made his remarks during a press conference, where he announced his final squad for the much-anticipated World Cup taking part in the US-Mexico-Canada, starting in June.
“Of course, some players will be called up and others will not. But what I take away from this camp is that I saw ready players, God willing, to represent Morocco in the near future,” Ouabi said.
He added that those who were not selected for this World Cup are capable of joining the Atlas Lions camp in September or in upcoming competitions.
While having a large talent pool in Morocco is a good thing for the country and its football, it also makes the coach’s life “more difficult.”
“But now we’re happy. We have our 26, and we’re heading to the World Cup with a lot of ambition,” he said.
The Atlas Lions coach also commended the players for their experience in the preparatory camp, citing intensity, discipline, and respect.
“We were very satisfied. I want to thank and congratulate the players for this camp. We had a really, really good camp.”
Many players expressed that they are proud of joining the national squad.
Ayyoub Bouaddi, who recently chose to represent Morocco over France, expressed that he is very proud to be able to represent Morocco in the greatest of competitions.
“A dream come true, but above all, the start of a new chapter, with even more work, rigor, and responsibilities,” he said.
Bouaddi added that he is also aware of the privilege he has to defend Morocco’s jersey.
“I will give everything to represent my country in the best possible way,” he added.
