Obasogie returns to Bendel Insurance

Former Bendel Insurance captain and Super Eagles goalkeeper Amas Obasogie has returned to the Benin Arsenal after signing a one-year contract with the Nigeria Premier Football League side.

Obasogie returns to familiar surroundings in Benin, where he built his reputation as one of the reliable goalkeepers in the Nigerian top flight before taking his career abroad.

The move provides Bendel Insurance with an experienced option between the posts as the Benin Arsenal strengthens their squad ahead of the new season.

Obasogie began his senior career with Bendel Insurance and rose to become an important member of the team, eventually wearing the captain’s armband before leaving Nigeria for Ethiopia in 2024.

He joined Ethiopian Premier League side Fasil Kenema SC, gaining his first experience outside Nigeria. The goalkeeper later moved to Tanzania in 2025, where he featured for Singida Black Stars.

His performances at club level also earned him recognition with the Super Eagles, adding international experience to a career that has taken him through Nigeria, Ethiopia and Tanzania.

The goalkeeper’s return to Benin brings him back to the club where he enjoyed some of the most important years of his career and offers Bendel Insurance both experience and familiarity in a key position.

With his knowledge of the NPFL and previous leadership role at the club, Obasogie’s arrival could prove valuable as Bendel Insurance continue preparations for the new campaign.
