EU trains Libyan border guards
The European Union has provided five days of training in Tripoli for Libyan border guard trainers from the interior and defence ministries.
The training, delivered through the EU Border Assistance Mission in Libya (EUBAM), focused on modern training methods and scenario-based exercises to strengthen border management and the fight against cross-border crime.
It comes as EUBAM works with Libya’s Border Guard Agency on a project to secure the western border, including the installation of optical and thermal surveillance systems along about 200km of the frontier.
The systems are intended to improve monitoring and early detection and help combat smuggling and irregular migration.
