Niger army eliminates 17 mercenaries in nationwide operations
Niger’s Defense and Security Forces said they had eliminated at least 17 mercenaries during nationwide operations in the second half of August.
According to an army news bulletin aired on national television, the operations also resulted in the arrest of dozens of terrorists and disrupted the supply networks supporting the mercenaries, Xinhua reported.
Several convoys were intercepted during the operations.
Security forces seized food and fuel supplies, along with large quantities of weapons and military equipment.
The bulletin also said specialized military engineering teams detected and destroyed 14 improvised explosive devices during the period, preventing potential threats to both security forces and civilians.
