“New methods, renewed zeal”: New SVD Provincial in Ghana-Liberia Sees Digital Media as Key Mission Frontier

“I dream of a digital apostolate that consistently produces and distributes resources for the formation of disciples of the Word of God,” he said.

Fr. Obeng also expressed his desire to see “a fully equipped communication office capable of generating evidence-based data, engaging stakeholders effectively, and ensuring our voices are heard at the United Nations and other international forums.”

The newly installed SVD Provincial Superior said his leadership would foster inclusion and intercultural solidarity, guided by the Synod on Synodality, the multi-year XVI Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops, which Pope Francis officially inaugurated in 2021 and later extended to 2024.

“No one will be excluded or left behind. Our solidarity will strengthen our intercultural mission, ensuring that we embrace diversity and foster deeper intercultural understanding,” he said.

The SVD leader in Ghana and Liberia called on Priests, Brothers, and formators in the Province to deepen fraternity through prayer, dialogue, and collaboration.

“In the spirit of solidarity, let us continue to deepen our relationships as a family, sharing ideas and undertaking common projects in pursuit of our shared mission,” Fr. Obeng said.

Underscoring the importance of teamwork, he acknowledged the support of the newly constituted Provincial Council comprising Fr. Stephen Dogodzi as Vice Provincial, Br. John Bissue as Admonitor, and Fr. Powathu Chandy Alexander and Fr. Bere Blolong Bernardus as Council Members.

“My primary responsibility is animation, coordination, and administration,” Fr. Obeng said, and added, “These responsibilities cannot be fulfilled without your cooperation and the support of the Provincial Council. Together, we can build the synergy needed to guide our Province as we prepare to celebrate our 90th anniversary.”

Fr. Obeng also paid tribute to his predecessors, particularly the outgoing Provincial Superior, Fr. Cyprian Kuupol, who has led the SVD Ghana-Liberia Province since 2020.

“Thank you for the notes and documentation that provide valuable insight into the current state of the Province,” he said, noting that he was studying them as he discerns future priorities.
