Morocco’s Ayyoub Bouaddi Breaks Into Golden Boy Top Five

Rabat – Moroccan midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi has climbed to fifth place in the latest 2026 Golden Boy rankings, strengthening his position among the most promising young players in European football.

The 18-year-old Lille star is the highest-ranked Moroccan player in the latest standings, which Barcelona defender Pau Cubarsí currently leads.

Cubarsí has moved ahead of his Barcelona teammate Lamine Yamal, collecting 700 more points than the Spanish winger. Yamal, however, is not eligible to win the award again after claiming the Golden Boy title in 2024.

For Bouaddi, his fifth-place ranking marks another major milestone in a rapid rise that has attracted attention from some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Bouaddi continues his rise

Bouaddi has established himself as an important player for Lille thanks to his maturity, technical ability, and composure in midfield despite his young age.

His reputation grew further during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he represented Morocco and delivered impressive performances on the international stage.

His displays have also increased interest from several European giants. Manchester City are reportedly among the clubs pushing to sign the Moroccan midfielder, while Paris Saint-Germain and other major European teams have also been linked with him.

The growing transfer interest reflects Bouaddi’s rapid development and his increasing value in the European market.

Moroccan among the elites

Bouaddi’s fifth-place position puts him ahead of several highly rated young players and confirms his status as one of Morocco’s brightest football prospects.

At just 18, the Lille midfielder is already competing for recognition alongside some of the biggest names in European youth football.

The 2026 Golden Boy award is reserved for players born in 2006 or later who play in one of Europe’s top 25 leagues. The winner will be announced at a ceremony in London on October 26.

Barcelona’s Cubarsí currently leads the race, followed by Ivorian midfielder Yan Diomande, who recently joined Real Madrid, and French midfielder Warren Zaïre-Emery.
