Morocco to Host 2027 U-17 AFCON, CAF Unveils Competition Calendar

Rabat – Morocco will host the 2027 CAF Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) confirmed today as it released an updated calendar for its continental competitions.

The youth tournament is scheduled to take place in April and May 2027, forming part of CAF’s broader effort to provide greater certainty for member associations, clubs, commercial partners, and supporters through a more structured competition calendar.

The announcement reinforces Morocco’s growing role as a host nation for major African football events. Before staging the U-17 continental championship, the country is also set to organize the 2026 Futsal Africa Cup of Nations, which will run from October 12 to 21.

CAF also confirmed that Ghana will host the 2027 Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations in February and March, while Egypt will stage the 2027 Under-23 Africa Cup of Nations, which will serve as the African qualification tournament for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

In women’s football, CAF revealed it is studying the feasibility of launching a new CAF Under-17 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations as early as next year, describing the proposed competition as another step in expanding development opportunities for young female players across the continent.

At senior international level, CAF confirmed that the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, hosted jointly by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, will take place from June 19 to July 17, 2027. Qualification matches are scheduled to begin in September 2026.

CAF also announced that the 2027 TotalEnergies CAF Super Cup will be played in Tshwane, South Africa, where Mamelodi Sundowns will face USM Alger on November 8, 2026.

Meanwhile, the governing body confirmed that the preliminary rounds of the 2026–27 CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup will kick off between September 4 and 6, with return fixtures taking place the following week.

CAF said the revised calendar reflects its commitment to creating a more stable and predictable football schedule across Africa, allowing national associations, clubs, players, broadcasters, and commercial partners to plan more effectively while supporting the continued growth of the game across the continent.
