Royal Moroccan Football Federation President Fouzi Lekjaa has claimed that the country “will host the 2030 World Cup final in Casablanca.” Sources last month mentioned that FIFA President Gianni Infantino is “supporting Morocco’s claims to host the tournament showpiece rather than Madrid’s Bernabéu stadium” after its federation backed him following the storm over his failed World Cup sell-off plan. Per Spanish news agency EFE, Lekjaa told a political party event in Bouznika, Morocco, “The province of Benslimane will have the honour of hosting the 2030 World Cup final.” Benslimane, 40 miles from Casablanca, is the site of the $1B Hassan II stadium, which is being built for the World Cup with a “projected capacity of 115,000 that would make it the largest football stadium in the world” (London TIMES, 9/10).
