Montero and Feliz combine for 54 points in Dominican Republic win over Brazil
Jean Montero exploded for 30 points, and Andres Feliz added 24 to lead the Dominican Republic to a 94-90 victory over Brazil in the FIBA World Cup Qualifiers. The win handed Brazil their first loss in the tournament. Leo Meindl led Brazil with 19 points.
Newly-acquired Olympiacos Piraeus guard Jean Montero was electric in the Dominican Republic’s victory over Brazil 94-90 scoring 30 points in the 2027 FIBA World Cup Americas Qualifiers.
Montero exploded for 30 points, making five threes with four rebounds, three assists and two steals.
He shot 8-of-17 from the field and 9-of-14 from the free throw line, making 5 of his 9 three pointers.
Fellow EuroLeague player for Real Madrid, Andres Feliz was one assist shy of a double-double, as he added 24 points, four rebounds and nine assists.
While the guards dominated, center Joel Soriano contributed 13 points and seven rebounds in only 17 minutes of play.
Meanwhile, Brazil was led by Leo Meindl, who scored 19 points and took six rebounds.
Free agent Bruno Caboclo and former NBA and EuroLeague player Raul Neto both had 14 points. Caboclo added two rebounds and two assists, while Neto grabbed three rebounds and dished out seven assists.
Important win for Dominican Republic
The Dominican Republic have handed out Brazil their first loss in the Qualifiers, therefore Brazil are now in second place in Group E with a 6-1 record, with the Dominican Republic being right behind them in third place with a 5-2 record.
USA have taken the first spot, with Mexico falling behind at fourth place. The Dominican Republic will try to strengthen their position by capturing a win against Chile on September 1. Brazil will face Mexico as they try to remain with one loss.
