South African coach Rulani Mokwena reacted to his team’s convincing 3-0 win in his first Egyptian Premier League clash against Ghazl El Mahalla.

Goals from Odeh Al-Fakhouri, Nasser Maher and Mahmoud Abdelhafiz Zalaka to send the Sky Blues top of the standings at the end of the first matchday.

It was the perfect start for Mokwena, with the 39-year-old overjoyed with how his team performed in the first game, but he is aware that the road ahead is a long one, according to El Captain Dostor.

Mokwena Happy With First Win

The former Mamelodi Sundowns tactician said his team’s pre-season preparations were pivotal to the way his team played.

“Congratulations to Pyramids and all members of the club,” Mokwena began.

“We had good preparation during the pre-season period, and Ahmed El-Shennawy said during the last Turkey camp that it was one of the best camps he has been through,” he added.

The South African continued, “We are happy with the result, we played well, and I am happy with the goals. We were the better side throughout the match, and I am also happy to keep a clean sheet.”

Mokwena said his team translated their training ideas onto the field, but he does not want to get carried away this early in the campaign.

“We put in a good performance and scored goals in the way we trained during the preparation period. The journey is still very early, but I am happy with the win,” he concluded.

Pyramids Ambitions For The Season

Mokwena will no doubt look to challenge on all fronts, with the Egyptian Premier League the only trophy missing from the club’s trophy cabinet.

The South African will also count on his continental experience to help the club mount a stern CAF Champions League challenge, while they also enter the season as the defending Egyptian Cup winners.
