Libya seeks international expertise on mine clearance

A Libyan housing ministry adviser has called for greater international cooperation and the exchange of expertise to help clear landmines and explosive remnants of war.

Fathi bin Faris, an adviser to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, made the remarks at the fourth International Mine Action Conference in Baku, Azerbaijan.

The conference brought together officials and experts from several countries to discuss the impact of landmines and war remnants on public safety, the return of displaced people and reconstruction.

Bin Faris said sharing international experience would help strengthen Libya’s national capacity to deal with war remnants and create a safer environment for housing and development.

The ministry said its participation was aimed at benefiting from international experience in mine clearance and reconstruction, as well as strengthening Libya’s engagement in efforts to develop safer and more sustainable communities and cities.
