Justice ministry explores prison development partnership with Chinese firm

The Deputy Minister of Justice for Judicial Police Affairs, Counsellor Ali Ishtiwai, on Tuesday held talks with a delegation from China Huashi Enterprises Co. Ltd to discuss prospects for cooperation in the construction and development of correctional and rehabilitation facilities.

The meeting focused on leveraging the Chinese company’s expertise and advanced technologies in designing and building correctional institutions in line with international standards, with the aim of upgrading existing infrastructure and developing new facilities that meet modern rehabilitation requirements.

Ishtiwai stressed the importance of developing correctional and rehabilitation institutions as a key pillar of the justice system, highlighting the ministry’s commitment to delivering quality projects that improve living conditions, care and rehabilitation services, and support the social reintegration of inmates.

For its part, the Chinese delegation outlined the company’s portfolio and experience, expressing readiness to cooperate with the ministry on specialised projects to advance the sector.

The ministry said the meeting forms part of broader efforts to modernise correctional institutions and enhance service standards in line with professional and humanitarian benchmarks.
