Jamaica Premier League turns to Legend Beer as new title sponsor | Sports

The Jamaica Premier League (JPL) is set for a change in title sponsorship, with Wisynco Group committing $300 million over five years to the country’s premier football competition through its Legend Beer brand.

Wisynco announced the partnership on its Instagram page on Sunday, confirming that Legend Beer will replace Wray & Nephew as title sponsor and become the new face of the league.

The competition will now be known as the Legend Jamaica Premier League.

Wisynco, which has traditionally been associated with soft drinks and bottled water, has in recent years expanded into the alcoholic beverage market. The sponsorship of the JPL is expected to provide Legend Beer with greater exposure as the company seeks to strengthen its position in the local beer market.

In announcing the partnership, Wisynco said it was seeking to “power a new chapter” for the JPL, while describing the five-year agreement as an “investment in Jamaican football”.

The company is committing an estimated $60 million per season to the league, with the funding expected to support league operations and development.

Other Wisynco brands, including WATA, Powerade and Tru Shake, will also be associated with the sponsorship.

The deal makes Legend Beer the third alcoholic beverage brand to hold the title sponsorship of Jamaica’s top football league.

Wray & Nephew was the first alcoholic beverage company to take up the title sponsorship, from 2002 to 2007. Red Stripe then enjoyed a lengthy stint from 2011 to 2022, before Wray & Nephew returned as title sponsor in 2023 and remained in the position through last season.

Other companies that have previously held the JPL title sponsorship include Craven A, Cash Plus and Digicel.

The new sponsorship comes as the league prepares for the start of its 2026-27 season, which is scheduled to kick off on September 6.

Portmore United are the defending champions.
