Coffee, one of Colombia’s most iconic symbols, became the main source of inspiration for one of the most talked-about runway shows at Colombiamoda 2026. During the opening of the event, Colombian fashion label Alado unveiled La Aurora, a collection that translated the landscapes, traditions, and daily life surrounding the country’s coffee culture into fashion, demonstrating how design can serve as a powerful medium for telling stories rooted in national heritage.

The collection featured 28 looks, including dresses, jackets, trousers, skirts, and corsets, conceived as a contemporary interpretation of life in Colombia’s coffee-growing mountains. Beyond showcasing new fashion trends, the collection paid tribute to the people who keep this tradition alive, particularly women coffee growers, whose work has played a vital role in the development of one of the country’s most emblematic industries.

The runway presentation was part of the opening program of Colombiamoda 2026 in Medellín, where Colombian designers once again turned to elements of the nation’s cultural identity as the foundation for collections with international appeal.

Colombia’s coffee culture took center stage on the Colombiamoda 2026 runway

The inspiration behind La Aurora came from the moment just before sunrise in Colombia’s coffee-growing mountains, when the first rays of sunlight reach the plantations and the day’s harvest begins. That scene became the central theme of a collection that brought key elements of the country’s rural landscape to the runway.

The garments incorporated textiles developed from coffee production byproducts, combining innovation with sustainable material use. Embroidery inspired by coffee blossoms and cherries complemented stripes and patterns reminiscent of traditional rural textiles, while prints reflected the landscapes and geography of Colombian coffee farms.

The runway production further reinforced the concept. The show recreated the atmosphere of dawn in the coffee region through sounds of the countryside, agricultural tools, and traditional música carrilera, immersing the audience in the landscapes where one of Colombia’s most internationally recognized products is cultivated.

The collection also highlighted the role of women in coffee farming, emphasizing their contribution to the rural economy and to preserving knowledge passed down through generations. In this way, fashion became a means of recognizing the often-overlooked work that sustains much of Colombia’s coffee-growing tradition.

Fashion embraces stories of identity and place

In recent years, Colombian fashion shows have increasingly embraced cultural, environmental, and artisanal influences as central themes in their collections. Rather than focusing solely on international trends, many designers have looked to local stories, traditional crafts, and regional landscapes for inspiration.

Colombia’s coffee culture offers a rich creative universe through its colors, textures, traditions, and deep connection to the land. Recognized by UNESCO through the Coffee Cultural Landscape of Colombia, this heritage represents not only an industry of enormous economic importance but also a way of life shaped over generations around coffee cultivation.

Within that context, the collection presented at Colombiamoda 2026 demonstrated how fashion can reinterpret elements of Colombia’s cultural heritage while maintaining a contemporary perspective. The use of innovative materials, references to rural labor, and visual tributes to the coffee-growing landscape showed that design can also play a role in preserving cultural memory.
